Lecidella carpathica morphotype "maritime".
Thallus relatively thick, whitish, dirty whitish a little yellowish, grayish or greenish. Apothecia numerous, at first flat and included in the thallus then sessile and convex and even globose, at first blackish then brownish and reddish-brown a little purple especially in rainy weather and in winter. Semi-opaque orange-brown hypothecium especially in KOH (lighter brown in reddish apothecia). Spores broadly elliptical to "almond", 11-17 x 6-8 µm according to our measurements. Thallus: C+/- yellow, K+ yellow, KC+ yellow, P+/- yellow. Morphotype coming to the base and close to the ground of shale rocks at the top of cliffs very exposed to sea spray and splashes of sea water.
